Cody began his martial arts training in 2004. He received his Blue Belt (Faixa Azul) in BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) in 2007. In 2012, he received his Purple Belt (Faixa Roxa). In 2015, Cody achieved the rank of Brown Belt (Faixa Marrom). As of 2016, he is afflitated under Guybson Sa (SAS Team).
Cody frequently competes in Gi and No-Gi tournaments, in both his weight division and in the absolute division. He has competed and placed at the local and national level. He is the current No-Gi Brown Belt Pan Am Gold Medalist (2017). He was also the Brown Belt Gold Medalist at the American Nationals No-Gi (2017). He won a silver medal at the 2015 IBJJF Chicago Spring Open in the Men’s Ultra Heavy Adult Purple Belt class. He has also placed and won gold at the Bluegrass Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open (BBJJO) and Extreme Grappling Open (EGO) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. Cody competed at the No-Gi Pan American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships in New York City in 2015.
Cody holds a 1-0 record in Mixed Martial Arts competition, with his win coming via Kimura submission in the first round. Cody has trained in the art of standup fighting as well for many years. He trained Muay Thai under the tutelage of Top Level Gym’s head instructor Ian Ransburg. He also trained boxing extensively under Wes Ramey Jr., who has trained multiple world champions in boxing. Coach Wes Ramey Jr. is also the son of Boxing Hall of Famer Wes Ramey Sr.
Cody is a Potawatomi Tribal Descendant of the Hannahville Indian Community in Upper Michigan. He has taught BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) to men, women, teens, and children at his home tribe’s martial arts club and at Top Level Gym’s old location in 2009. Cody is a certified EMT and a finance major at IUPUI’s Kelley School of Business.
