It’s been a common trend for many years that martial arts can help build physical fitness, confidence, and discipline from youth through adulthood. However, I think the philosophy is sometimes too structured to “If my child was in trouble, they could defend themselves". This is highly important for their safety, but one thing we really try to focus on in our Top Level Warriors program are two other self-defense options first before leading to our physical training.
- Verbal Conflict Resolution- What is the issue, What can be done, Who can I look to for help or guidance
- This is highly important in a school setting as often any physical conflict will result in suspension, detention, etc.
- Escaping the situation- It’s too late, I’m always safest if I can exit the problem and run!
- In self-defense situations the best defense is to not be there, which can also solve the above issue of punishment even if it was in self-defense
- Last Resort is our physical training to protect ourselves and our friends
